Demetria Murphy is the Founder and CEO of Heal the Ville and the Youth Diverse Intervention Group (YDIG). As a licensed clinical social worker associate, licensed clinical addiction specialist associate, and long‑standing community advocate, she has dedicated her life to building pathways of healing, prevention, and empowerment for youth, families, and justice‑impacted individuals.
Her leadership is deeply informed by lived experience. After serving 10 years in the women’s federal prison system, Demetria returned home with a renewed purpose: to break cycles of violence, trauma, and incarceration by creating the support she wished existed for herself and so many others. Her journey from incarceration to community leader is a testament to resilience, transformation, and the power of second chances.
Demetria is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Leadership, further deepening her commitment to restorative justice, policy reform, and community transformation. Her academic work strengthens her ability to challenge systems, advocate for change, and design programs that are both trauma-informed and justice-centered.
Her work spans clinical practice, violence prevention, reentry support, youth leadership development, and community organizing. Demetria is known for blending compassion with strategy, creating programs that are both heart‑centered and system‑changing. She leads with authenticity, transparency, and a deep belief in the power of community healing.
As a national speaker and trainer, she uses her voice to inspire change, challenge systems, and equip others with the tools to build safer, stronger communities. Her message is consistent: healing is possible, leadership is teachable, and every person has the power to transform their environment, no matter where they started.
Under her leadership, Heal the Ville and YDIG have become powerful forces for transformation across Cumberland County and beyond.
